Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi Visits CWRC and Kaziranga Discovery Park
CWRC, Kaziranga National Park, December 30, 2016:
Mr Gaurav Gogoi, Member of Parliament from the Kaliabor Lok Sabha Constituency of Assam, visited the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation, IFAW-WTI and the Assam Forest Department’s wildlife rescue, treatment and rehabilitation facility near Kaziranga National Park yesterday.

Mr Gogoi interacted with the centre’s management, veterinarians and animal keepers, and took stock of the condition of the flood-rescued rhino calves, elephant calves and other animals. He also visited the adjacent site of the upcoming Kaziranga Discovery Park (KDP), a facility being developed by WTI and the Assam Forest Department to showcase the splendours of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kaziranga. The KDP will include the Mark Shand Learning Centre for Asian elephants and a clinic for captive elephants (both created in partnership with Elephant Family), and an IFAW-WTI learning centre on wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

While interacting with the media, Mr Gogoi expressed his desire to support the KDP project, being the local MP for the area. He proposed a significant contribution from his MPLAD (Member of Parliament Local Area Development) fund for KDP, which will be handed over to the project’s management in the New Year.
