‘Commentaries on Wildlife Law- Cases, Statutes & Notifications’ is in response to the need felt by field level enforcement officials, lawyers, NGOs and activists in dealing with wildlife conservation related issues. The book is a first ever commentary on the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, and also includes an up-to-date compilation of the Supreme Court and High Courts judgments on Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, Indian Forest Act, 1927, Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 and other relevant statutes.
The last two decades of the 20th century witnessed the increasing use of legal and judicial processes by Indians to protect the environment. The Supreme Court of India through the writ petition T. N. Godavarman Thirumulpad vs Union of India W.P. (C)202 of 1995 and Centre for Enviromental Law, WWF vs Union of India W.P. (C)337 of 1995 has dealt with several complicated and complex issues related to forest and wildlife. In the course of this a series of directions, orders and judgments has been passed by the Court.
