Background:
Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) is looking for a Field Officer/Assistant Field Officer for its projects in Assam and Meghalaya. The post requires extensive travelling.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Point person for the specific field and on-site implementation of the project.
  • Execute eco-development and alternative livelihood initiatives.
  • Scientific monitoring of the initiatives.
  • Network with local NGOs, relevant Government Departments.
  • Report writing, day to day documentation.
  • Run a public campaign at village/district level.


Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in participatory conservation, eco-development and alternative livelihood.
  • Good understanding of community dynamics and ability to think fast.
  • Experience in conducting PRA and in preparing micro-plans will be an advantage.
  • Good at carrying out surveys, organising group meetings and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills, specially with rural/tribal communities.
  • Fluency in Bodo/Karbi/Garo/Assamese.


Qualifications:
A post-graduate degree in a social science discipline such as anthropology, sociology, social work, rural management, political science, human geography or equivalent.

Exposure to current debates in wildlife conservation will be an advantage.

Experience:
2-3 years experience in similar position, preferably in northeast India.

Background:
Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) is looking for a Training Officer for its Policy, Enforcement, Law and Training (PELT) programme, Guardians of the Wild Division to handle various aspects of its wildlife prevention training programme for frontline field protection staff of India.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct need assessments for trainings at field level.
  • Prepare training schedules and coordinate individual training programmes in the field through resource persons including PA managers.
  • Prepare draft reports on each training.
  • Maintain database of all trainings conducted by WTI.
  • Any other relevant work, assigned by the Head of Department.


Skills:

Mandatory:

  • Strong liaisoning skills, specially with government agencies.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong event/workshop organisation skills.
  • Reasonable physical fitness and willingness to travel to wildlife areas and adaptability to work/stay in adverse situations, if necessary.
  • Proficiency in English/Hindi (written & spoken).
  • Basic  computer skills (at least MS Office). 

Desirable:

  • Practical knowledge of field crafts like identification of animal signs, calls and their significance etc.
  • Knowledge of detection and investigation of wildlife crime.
  • Knowledge of any regional language.


Qualifications:
Graduate  in Life Sciences / Zoology / Botany / Wildlife Sciences / Environmental Sciences / Criminology with extensive knowledge of wildlife and its conservation in India

Experience:
At least three years experience working on wildlife conservation issues in India, including field work. Good knowledge of wildlife PAs and forest guard working necessary.

  • Field work for estimation of tiger and prey population densities using capture-recapture and distance sampling methodologies.
  • Other conservation action related work in project site.
  • Working closely with concerned Forest department staff.
  • Design and analysis of field based studies.
  • Report writing.


Skills:

  • Familiarity with sign surveys for carnivores and vegetation sampling.
  • Candidates should be familiar with theory of sampling, population estimation and basic statistics.
  • Familiarity with GIS and population estimation software such as MARK, CAPTURE, PRESENCE etc.
  • Good written communication in English.


Qualifications:
Graduate / Post-graduate in wildlife sciences / wildlife biology / biological sciences. A candidate interested in pursuing his / her doctoral work on tigers / tiger conservation in the landscape will be preferred.

Experience:
1-2 years of field experience.

Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of wildlife/conservation issues
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken)
  • Budgeting skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, specially Excel and Powerpoint.


Experience:
3-5 years in a similar position.

Qualifications:
A post-graduate in Wildlife Biology/Wildlife Science/related fields. Candidates with other qualifications can also apply given the above skills.
