Tiger and leopard skins seized, three traders arrested in TN
Dindigul (Tamil Nadu), April 6, 2009: A tiger skin and a leopard skin were seized yesterday at Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, in a joint undercover operation by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) assisted by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI). Three ‘crafty’ and experienced wildlife traders were arrested.

Delhi, September 17, 2008: Four sloth bears including a cub were rescued by authorities in Lahan in the southeastern Sirhaha district in Nepal, last week, acting on the information provided by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI). Three of the four bears were adults trained as dancing bears to be sold to Kalandars in India.

Allahabad High Court verdict to save sarus cranes
New Delhi, March 20, 2002: The Allahabad High Court on March 19, 2002 stopped the draining of five wetlands crucial for the survival of the world’s largest concentration of the endangered Sarus cranes. These five wetlands in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, which are home to over 33 per cent of the global Sarus crane population, were being drained under a World Bank funded wasteland reclamation project. There are only about 9,000 Sarus cranes left in the world.

WTI helps Indian Customs and DRI officials seize 230 kg raw shahtoosh wool
New Delhi, September 26, 2002:
In what is one of the biggest seizures of raw shahtoosh wool in India, over 230 kgs of the wool from the highly endangered Tibetan antelope have been caught in two separate cases.On September 26, 100 kgs of shahtoosh in three bales were caught at New Delhi Railway Station. It had been sent from Jaigaon on the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar.

SC issues notice to Centre, Bihar Government over non-payment of salaries in Valmiki Tiger Reserve
Delhi, January 7, 2002: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to both the Union government and the Bihar government asking them to explain why the staff of Valmiki Tiger Reserve have not be paid their salaries on time, leading to the staff walking out of the park in October and threatening the security of the tigers in the reserve. Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) Trustee and member of the Project Tiger Steering committee, Mr. Ashok Kumar had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court, seeking its intervention in the matter of security to the Valmiki Tiger Reserve in West Champaran district of Bihar.
