Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) invites applications from highly accomplished individuals with at least 12 years of experience in running community development or other sociological programmes, to take overall charge of its Green Livelihoods division.

Who we’re looking for

As our Chief Sociologist, Green Livelihoods (GL), you will take the lead in providing technical and strategic inputs to projects under the GL vertical. You will conceptualise new projects, manage and mobilise manpower as required, liaise with relevant governmental and non-governmental agencies, and work with existing and potential donors to secure the sustenance of projects under the vertical. You will, of course, have a strong belief in nature conservation.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Postgraduate degree (or higher) in Social Sciences or any allied disciplines
  • Must have 12+ years of experience
  • Age between 30-45 years
  • Must have an understanding of wildlife conservation and related issues

Broad responsibilities include

  • Ensuring the strategic growth and development of the Green Livelihoods Big Idea
  • Ensuring that all projects under the GL vertical are properly planned and funded, the necessary technical inputs are provided, and adequate and skilled manpower is allocated to achieve the requisite quality of work
  • Providing strategic inputs on the creation, planning and funding of new projects
  • Developing alliances with NGOs, state and central government agencies and other relevant organisations to realise project objectives; liaising especially with state forest departments, the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Rural Development to facilitate statutory clearances and compliances
  • Taking responsibility for the development of data collection and monitoring systems for field projects and providing advice on these aspects on an ongoing basis
  • Contributing to the development and preparation of manuscripts for WTI’s internal publications as well as peer-reviewed journals
  • Developing and delivering presentations to the social sciences community, government agencies and existing or potential private sector donors as required
  • Representing the organisation at various sociological forums
  • Establishing a clear link as to how the GL division’s activities are contributing to the organisation’s mission and vision
