Pangolins are the worlds most trafficked mammal today. As a result, all the species, whether African or Asian are threatened in the IUCN Red List. India is home to two of them, the Critically Endangered Chinese pangolin in the north-east and the Endangered Indian Pangolin in most of peninsular India. Both seem to be illegally caught and traded in vast numbers, the seizures pointing to hundreds of kilos of pangolin scales leaving the country every year.
