Project Description
Recent surge in human wildlife conflict cases in Odisha, an eastern state of India led State Forest Department of Odisha to collaborate with WTI for capacity building of their officials to develop a holistic understanding of human-wildlife conflicts, approaches to manage wildlife and impart critical knowledge on various aspects of species-specific conflict management as part of Odisha HWC mitigation training.
To meet the purpose, in 2021, WTI began with a series of capacity-building training workshops in human-wildlife conflict management covering all eight Forest Circles of Odisha.
WTI has conducted three phases of training in 8 forest circles of Odisha since the project inception, which includes basic level training attended by 166 trainees, a refresher/recap training for basic level attended by 131 trainees and advanced level training attended by 131 trainees, showcasing best practices to address HWC scenarios.
